The Cincinnati Bengals!

Today has been a good day.  I am clean, I have slept, I have had my coffee, and I am currently watching the Bengals game…on TV!  How exciting is that?!  The Bengals Broncos game in Afghanistan.  There are just no words.  Cincinnati looks good on TV today.  The stands look well occupied, the sky is a bit cloudy, but the sun is shining.  Hopefully they do me proud and kick some ass!

Three minutes gone in the first quarter and the Bengals are playing well.  Bronco’s player Kuper has lost his helmet twice and the commentators are criticizing how loose his fit is and how back in the day helmets were sized tighter for safety reasons.
TV here is actually very enjoyable.  We get a cable network called the Armed Forces Network (AFN).  We do not get political commercials, tampon commercials, or Viagra ads.  We get good, wholesome breaks that give us safety tips, Armed Forces updates, encouragement to use our values, and motivation.  I wish this network was available at home.  It is far better than the cable company I was subscribed to when I was in the States.  It may have far fewer channels, but it covers the basics without the crap.  We have channels for news, movies, family, prime, sports, sports2, spectrum, comedy, and of course the guide channel.
Watching this game makes me forget where I am and takes me back to all the Bengals games I have gone to with my dad.  When I zone out on the TV, I may be sitting in a plywood room, but in my mind I am sitting in the Cincinnati stands freezing my bum off with my dad next to me sipping a hot cup of coffee and handing me a steaming cup of cocoa.  We always stayed until the last minute, taking in the sights, praising the team for the well executed plays, and yelling when their plays did not pan out as we had hoped.  We would make fun of people in the stands, laughing at silly costumes, and questioning team loyalty when people left early in the fourth quarter.  After the game, we would call Mom to come and pick up our frozen selves and walk to a fairly abandoned, well thought out pick-up location.  Ah, such fond memories.
Feel free to send me your questions in whatever means you have available (email, facebook, comments).  They don’t have to be questions of advice; they can be questions about Afghanistan or about me, I will be more than glad to answer them!

  1. Why is it that no matter who's fault it is, no matter who instigated it, no matter the circumstances of an issue/fight, is the woman always the one hurt always the victim, and the man is always at fault, always the one who has to appologize, and always have to be the one to make the first move to make up?

  2. Mama turtle, I had no idea that you like football that much. I don't know much about Football, but the BUNGALS really need to get it together. They don't have the stamina to make it through a full game.
Maybe we can see them WIN a game instead of Bungling them!
